Face Recognition

A Daily Maintenance Checklist for a Face Recognition Kiosk

An entrance tablet or computer operates in a busy environment throughout the day. Dust, loose connections or a changed camera angle may make recognition harder. Daily maintenance should help staff notice small physical changes before busy arrivals, rather than encourage unnecessary daily configuration changes.

1. Inspect the camera and display

Check for dirt, tape or accessories in front of the lens. Follow the device manufacturer’s cleaning instructions and do not spray liquid directly onto cameras or connectors. Choose a cloth and method suitable for the surface. Report scratches or persistent image marks to the technical support team.

2. Check power and cable arrangements

Look for loose charging connections, crushed cables or unexpected shutdowns. Keep cables safely arranged away from the walking route. If an adapter is damaged or the device shows excessive heat or deformation, do not force continued operation. Notify the institution’s technical lead and follow manufacturer guidance.

3. Compare placement and lighting

Check whether the kiosk remains at its tested height and angle and whether posters or objects obstruct it. Confirm that a face can comfortably fit within the live frame. Note daylight and doorway changes. Make the tested arrangement clear instead of continually moving the device.

4. Review a controlled test event

Use an institution-approved test profile to check entry or exit. Keep test activity separate from actual student reporting and avoid unnecessary guardian messages. Verify the name, event type and timestamp. The test method must fit your installation rather than assume one universal operation for every setup.

5. Hand over concise issue notes

A small record containing the date, device, observation and action is sufficient. Avoid starting updates casually during busy arrival times. Agree maintenance timing and a recovery plan with the technical team. For recurring problems, knowing when and under which conditions they occurred is more useful than vague descriptions.
